Holmes, the Sotogrande specialist

Holmes Sotogrande office, Costa del SolWhen Ian and Jackie Bateman first came to Sotogrande it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair. The couple were well travelled and had visited many a beauty spot in the world, but Sotogrande captured their imagination as no other place had ever done. “I think it was the sense of quality and refinement combined with space, freedom and a very laid-back atmosphere that made it stand out for us,” says Jackie.

They decided to make this their home and were able to share their enthusiasm for Sotogrande and its lifestyle when they founded Holmes Property Sales in 1979. “We had young children and thought this would be a fantastic place for them to grow up; in an environment with lots of nature, fresh air and outdoor activities, but also one that is very cosmopolitan and stimulating.”

The Batemans have since become very much a part of the small but tight-knit community in Sotogrande, and continue to count themselves lucky to live in such a privileged spot. “Naturally it is great to have the facilities and glamour of Marbella close by,” says Ian, “as well as Spanish towns, cities and the unique atmosphere of Gibraltar, but Sotogrande is the place we call home.”

Holmes Sotogrande the Sotogrande expertA solid reputation
With over 30 years experience in the area, Holmes Sotogrande has become known as the specialist agent for the greater Sotogrande area. A family business with a very personal ethic, the company was forged by Ian and Jackie with their long-time business partner, Miguel Preysler, joining them in 1986 when the business reached a phase of expansion. Formerly the General Manager of Sotogrande when it was still owned by Ayala under the control of Joseph McMicking and his nephew Enrique Zobel, Miguel retired from the company in 2011, allowing himself more time for his lifelong loe of golf and fishing. Together, the Batemans have built a solid reputation that acts as the calling card of the firm, ensuring that Holmes Sotogrande is associated with integrity and quality, both in the service it offers and in the properties on its books.

Although the business has always evolved with the times, there has been a consistent philosophy based on quality and integrity that is the main factor behind Holmes being the longest established real estate agency in Sotogrande – and a prominent point of reference in the local property industry.

Now, a new generation is leading Holmes Sotogrande into the future, building on a very successful past and a reputation that many can only aspire to, and blending new knowledge with old-fashioned ethics and values. As someone who has grown up in Sotogrande and understands what today’s property buyers expect, Ben Bateman returned to Sotogrande after having attained his honours degree in microbiology at Bristol University, following this up by gaining experience and marketing training in the UK. He represents the future of a company that will continue to welcome new visitors and residents to one of the most enchanting spots in Europe.
