Sotogrande’s Santa María Polo Joins world’s elite

Santa María Polo ClubThe World Polo Tour stops off in some of the world’s most glamorous locations, and now that includes the Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande. The selection of the Sotogrande club in the annual tour schedule validates the quality of the club’s facilities, and the tour organisers have praised its ‘world class’ pitches.

Receiving this praise from such a distinguished body in the world of polo will inevitably boost not just the Santa María club, but will also bring a host of benefits to Sotogrande in general, with restaurants, hotels and other businesses in the area also reaping the benefits.

For the club itself, its selection as the venue for at least three of the main World Tour tournaments, including the Copa de Plata and Copa de Oro, means that it will be able to increase its capacity to host additional teams for the Sotogrande Land Rover International Tournament in July and August.

In 2014, some 32 teams from 20 countries already came here to compete in the Land Rover International tournament. Of course, polo doesn’t just bring players and ponies to the area; it also draws sponsors of the calibre of Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Bulgari, not to mention their client base.

Sotogrande’s premier polo club was originally founded in 1965, and over the years it has expanded to the point where it now has nine fields. Today it is in the same ranking as The Guards Polo Club in the UK or the Palm Beach, Dubai, as well as the famed Argentinian clubs. In 2008, Santa María was designated a place of Tourist Interest, and this aspect of the Club’s activities will undoubtedly continue to grow.

Santa María Polo ClubWhy not watch a game at Santa María in 2015? You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the social aspects of the club’s tournaments. And if you know nothing about this exhilarating sport just visit the Santa María website , where you’ll find a guide to polo and its rules. Armed with this knowledge, why not bask in this glamorous world for a while, and perhaps spot an international royal or two while you’re there.
