Feeling festive in Sotogrande

Christmas in SotograndeAlthough we may not have snow in Sotogrande, there is still so much to help get you into the Christmas spirit. From markets to carol services, take a look at our top venues to visit this winter to celebrate the festive season and see in the New Year.

If you prefer more traditional Christmas celebrations, visit the Iglesia de Nuestra Sra. de la Merced (Sotogrande’s main church) for carol services throughout December. There’s even some singing in the streets by the students of the Sotogrande International School, who perform festive favourites each year in a range of shops in Sotogrande, so keep an eye out for news of dates and locations. Sotogrande also offers quality weekly markets, and during the month of December there are Christmas markets to explore for the perfect place to find great stocking fillers and gifts. The Christmas fair in San Roque takes place on the 6th December, with fun for all the family including bouncy castles, Santa’s grotto and much more. Other events for kids include Frozen Live, where the magic of Disney is brought live on stage at the Puerto de la Duquesa, Heaven Bar & Lounge on the 13th and 20th of December.

If you are looking to party, enjoy the New Year Gala dinner at the Hotel Almenara offering cocktails and entertainment as well as a special brunch, which sounds like the perfect way to start 2015. For some glitz and glamour, spend New Year’s Eve at the Santa Maria Polo Club with a three course meal on offer, featuring DJs from the famous Nikki Beach and lots of opportunity to dance the night away. Of course there is also an excellent choice of bars and restaurants in Sotogrande to dine in, from the marina front to the lively town, with a range of cuisines to suit all tastes to keep you from going hungry this festive season. The unique scenery of Sotogrande alone is worth a visit this winter, where you can take a wander through the marina, a brisk walk on the beach or head into the wooded hills surrounding the suburban areas, enjoy a sociable game of golf or lunch at one of the area’s wintertime restaurants.

It’s the relaxied pace of Sotogrande that makes this time of year so enjoyable and a perfect getaway break. Sit back, relax and enjoy time with family and friends with a cosy coffee in one of the cafés, admire the sun setting on the beach, wrap up in scarves for country walks and admire the inimitable views.
